Reflection for Draft 1 of Literacy narrative

My literacy narrative took me a long time to write. I would have multiple topics I would have like to discuss about that were life changing for me. But, whenever I have more options, I become indecisive and always feel unsatisfied with my work at the end because I always felt like I could have done better. Also, whenever I would be halfway done with my story, I would run out of ideas and would repeat things I already discussed. When, I finally decided on choosing to write about my experience with books at an early age and how my view changes as I grow. When writing it luckily, I could create a story where I was able to lengthen the rising point and had the climax. I mostly choose this life changing event because it has a significant role in changing my view on English and its devices.             As mentioned before, I explored two other topics before deciding the current one. One was abo...

Interview

My research idea is about “war on drugs” and how it should be stopped. The person I choose for my interview is the acting director of the Pre-Law program in CCNY. I choose this person because he was very knowledgeable with the law and when I did ask him to interview him on this topic he seemed very interested in this topic. His expertise was very helping for me getting a better idea of the theme of my research essay. My topic is connected with the economy, What are your opinions and viewpoint on the “war on drug”? I believe the war on drugs are targeting certain members of society rather than doing what the “war on drugs” was intended for to stop the imports and usage of drugs. What was the purpose for the “war on drugs”? The “war on drugs” was coined by Richard nixon and it may have been a just cause for the people in the government, because in general seeing people smoking marijuana is seen as immoral and disturbing. One of the ...

Final Research Paper

The Unwinnable War Abstract My topic is the “war on drugs” and I wish to inform my audience to the pros and cons to this situation. My motives for researching this topic was mostly because I had some background knowledge of this topic and wished to share my knowledge of it. Also, some of my closest friends are addicted to drugs and I want to learn how we are handling drugs. Also, this topic has always piqued my interest because of the it reeked with unfairness as the U.S government continues to imprison many people for drugs. Also, drugs continued to become interested by the public as the illegal drug “marijuana” is gradually being accepted and legalized in the U.S. This research helped me discover that the “War on Drugs” has been unproductive and needs to change because of the many errors and disadvantages it puts on the American people Key terms:  Marijuana, Drugs The Unwinnable War Do you think drugs are awful? The U.S government clearly does not favor drugs because...

Reflection 10

In the passage” From Prison to Ph.D.: The Redemption and Rejection of Michelle Jones” is about a woman who may be redeeming for her mistakes. This article is about a woman named Michelle Jones who killed her son “accidentally” and was sent to prison. She spent two decades in prison, but sought to educate herself. In the harshest environments she was able to educate herself and eventually made a research paper. Currently, she was able to get out of jail and is now in NYU who is working to get her PHD. Also, she is willing to help people by teaching in NYU’s prison education program.             This article goes to show that anyone could be at the lowest point, but they all can redeem themselves and help society. In this article it does advocate the idea for a “second chance” for anyone as there are many people in jail for crimes that should not be punished so severely. As currently many of the U. S’s prison system is overcrowde...

Reflection 9

In the passage “Only daughter” by Sandra Cisneros was a thought-invoking story because it helped me better understand the lifestyle of a Mexican girl. Sandra’s story is about the troubles she faced to become a write. She was alone most of the time because all her six brothers left her alone because in her culture boys are seen lower if they are playing with girls in public. However, this loneliness also helped her think and to eventually become a writer. She also had some conflict with her father as her father would see here’s worth was to become on someone’s wife. This made me think how women may be oppressed in many ways because of the culture we believe in.             As she continued her path to become a writer she would always look for attention by her father for her writing skills. It was her way of getting out of the strict image her father seen her in as she wanted to say that sh...

Reflection 8

In the passage “Mother’s tongue” by Amy tan it was one of the most interesting stories because I was able to make many connections with it. The passage tells a story about an Asian family where the mother’s English is considered “broken” by many people because she was born in China. However, her daughter who is Amy Tan was born in the U.S was able to speak English in a way many people would consider proper and normal. As the mother’s inability to speak English properly caused other people to not treat her with the same respect anyone would be wanted to be treated by others. I can relate to this because there were many cases where my mother would be buying something from a store and the cashier would roll her eyes or even say they don’t understand. Therefore, made me feel my mother was wronged and would never go back to the store because of such mistreatment. In the passage, the mother of Amy tan was used as her voice to speak to others because many other people considered her daught...

After reading Stanley Milgram’s article called “The Perils of Obedience” was about an experiment to see how far a person with power can control a person even though it may go against their conscience. The experiment caused the subject to cause harm to an actor through an electric generator. Stanley believed that many of the subjects would go against the will of the experimenter and refuse to cause any more harm to the actor. However, the results showed otherwise as many of the subjects either continued to harm the actor by placing the responsibility on the experimenter who was the power of authority. Also, many of the other subjects just followed through the experiment with only sighs of reliefs and nervousness in the end. This shows how a person with authority has power to control people because they would either be too scared to oppose them or they would place all the blame on the person with the authority. This explains how a person of authority can control most people with their s...
