Journal Entry #3
The two texts on technology is mostly about how technology affects our lives negatively. For the text titled Attached to technology and paying a price shows how the family is less socially attached because phones and social media takes away their time together. Also, the father Mr. Campbell has struggled to set his priorities and gets easily distracted. For example, Mr. Campbell would be on a honeymoon with his wife, but he would spend two hours on his phone and computer than on his wife, who needs most of his attention and love. In the argumentative essay Technology and Children it explains that children are still developing their brains and how their brain develops would affect them for their whole life. Currently, many parents would just give their phones to their children to keep them quiet, but this can affect these kids negatively in the long run. As children who use their phones and play with social media since a young age would cause them to become more easily distracted and less concentrated on school work. In schools at China and Korea most of the children has less exposure computers or any technology, which may explain the reason their children has one of the highest math and reading scores. Therefore, computers and phones has a negative impact on any person because it causes them to be distracted really easily and decreases social interaction among people.
Technology has also played a negative role in my life as proven by the texts. I started watching TV since a very young age with my dad. This may have caused me to grow interested in watching TV and playing games on my computer. The computer may also be the reason why I had so much trouble being focused to one single thing because I would always drift off to sites like facebook or you tube, whenever I was doing my homework. The computer also made me lazy as I would never want to get my butt off my chair to do chores or other things. Also, since my computer didn’t require much social interaction, I wouldn’t be able to hold a decent conversation with my peers at school and would always get nervous. Even though, technology may have affected me negatively with so many things one good thing is that it kept me entertained and distracted whenever I was feeling down. To conclude, technology has made me socially introverted and less focused on my education, but it served as an outlet when I wanted to be distracted.
