Journal entry #4
The passage titled Attached to technology and paying a price shows most of the negatives that played into Mr. Campbell’s and his family’s life. For example, the article explains Mr. Campbell’s inability to concentrate on the most important things in his life because of games or emails. Also, in the essay Technology and Children explains how phones and television affect children by decreasing their concentration skills, which plays a huge role in their ability at school. To conclude, both passages mainly focus on the downsides of technology.
The two passages report and evidence did not surprise because I have personally felt like my addiction with technology was not very healthy. There were numerous occasions when I couldn’t focus on completing my homework, and always became distracted with my computer or phone. However, no matter how harmful technology may be towards us. Technology will always be a part of our life as it always has been ever since the stone age to make our lives easier. Phones may harm our children brains, but phones give our children entertainment and information they would usually never be able to receive. Phones and computers allow us to connect with people around the world and allow us to become more globalized. Information is processed and shared among people in such accelerated speeds that allows civilization to advance creating and improve technology. Improvements to make technology less harmful to our children is also a possibility. There are so many positive things technology has to offer and we should look for ways to make technology healthier for us.
Technology has affected my daily lives and social skills. My phone and computer has made me talk with people less because these things helped distract and entertain me. Since, I barely talked to anyone in real life, I would struggle to look people in the eye, whenever I was holding a conversation with someone. My computer has also made me lazier because I wouldn’t want to get off my chair to do things anything that required movement. Also, it might have been due to television that I did not like to read books because I was so used to pictures and the dialogue one would see or hear, but for reading you had to be thinking much more. Therefore, in my daily life technology has affected me negatively.
