This article explains how private owned prison systems have terrible medical care systems. Prisons was always owned by the federal government until the 19th century until the War on Drugs which led to an explosive increase of the number of prisoners. Also, the federal government made illegal immigrants who continued to re-entry the country after numerous warnings would eventually be sent to jail. Because of the increased number of prisoners, the government wanted to cut costs by contracting prisons to private-owned companies. The government would grant these companies a set amount of money where they would use to operate the prisons. However, the companies wanted to profit as well so they did everything they could to lower as much costs such as using lower quality medical facilities. As many of the prison’s health care facilities were filled with undertrained staff who did not have the proper knowledge of skill to treat someone. Therefore, many prisoners were not treated properly in this chaotic and disease stricken environment, leading to many eventual deaths. Many of these deaths could have been avoided if they were treated properly with the correct personal. These private owned prisons did not save the government as much money either as many of the costs that would have been saved was used to monitor these private owned prisons and try to fix the many problems. To conclude, the government’s intention to cut costs produced a poor-quality prison system with a terrible medical system that killed many prisoners.
This article informed us how private prison systems are exploiting these prisoners. The article was informative and evoked emotion as many prisoners were indirectly killed by these unfair prison systems. As the article showed us how these private owned prisons operated their medical facilities with no intention to help people in need but because of the rules that were instructed by the government in the contract. This article would be in my body paragraph to connect how the war on drugs led to an increase number of prisoners and corrupted private-owned prison systems.
Wilson, Delgreco. “Corporate America Exploits Prisoners: Inmates Become Assets for Major Companies to Expand Profit Margins.” Philadelphia Tribune, 10 Nov. 1998, p. 6A.
This article explains how the “war on drugs” is causing an increase of the creation of corrupted private prisons. The U.S is spending billions of dollars to maintain the many police, judges and correction facilities, which made them eventually lean towards privatization of prisons. Private owned prisons are taking advantage of prisoners by using them to profit. As even many well-known companies such as Microsoft and Victoria’s Secret are using these prisoners for cheap labor. As the minimal pay laws does not affect them and the companies do not have to provide them with any kind of health care insurance or compensations because they are prisoners. As the “war on drugs” continue the victims who are mostly people of color and minorities are sent to prison are unfairly sent to jail. Also, as more people get sent to jail we have more people who are being destroyed mentally and physically and would not be able to live a proper life once they do even get out of jail because of how long they were exploited.
This article is very informative with how corrupted private prisons function. Therefore, this can be used to introduce privatization of prisons and how corrupted they are. This article can be used to create another one of my body paragraphs to explain how the “War on drugs” is only creating an unnecessary amount of prison systems which is only causing harm to minorities and is only helping the “elite” class in society.
OPENING STATEMENT: 'ONDCP'S FISCAL YEAR 2011 NATIONAL DRUG CONTROL BUDGET: ARE WE STILL FUNDING A WAR ON DRUGS?'." States News Service, 14 Apr. 2010. AcademicOneFilego.galegroup.com/ps/i.do?p=AONE&sw=w&u=cuny_ccny&v=2.1&id=GALE%7CA225405887&it=r&asid=c4a9392aa9f5259b4fbce5ff48d8ae02. This article shows how the administration is still funding the “war on drugs” ineffectively. The “War on Drugs” is fought because it research shows that drugs users are more prone to hurting their family members. Therefore, the administration is spending more on law enforcement and less on programs that prevent people from using drugs, As, programs that prevent people from using drugs as well as treating people who are addicted to drugs is better. As the amount of people who used drugs since 2002 has not changed even though the U.S government has the highest rates of incarceration and with all the funding toward drug counter support and law enforcement.
This article gives a general idea on how the government is trying to fight the “War on Drugs”. This article can be used to show how these programs such as law enforcement is ineffective to prevent the amount of drug users and we should support and fund for more effective solutions. Solutions such as programs treating addicted drug users as well as programs that may sway the public from ever using drugs. Therefore, this may be used to counter argument if the budget is used in a appropriate manner for the “War on Drugs”.
National Institute on Drug Abuse, issuing body. Principles of Drug Addiction Treatment : a Research-Based Guide. Third ed., 2012.

Also, other specific such as prescribed drug treatments cause drug addiction and other specific things are explained. To conclude, this article goes into much more depth into the specifics of the occurrence and how to treat drug addictions.
This article is very informative on the details of programs for drug treatment. Therefore, this article can be used to explain some drug treatments that the government could be using for the “War on drugs”. Also, this information can be also used for my body paragraphs to explain the administrative process and to what programs the government still uses to stop drug users from using drugs. Overall, this article is helpful to give the reader a more specific and extensive explanation of the programs used in the “War on drugs”
